very interesting idea, I will watch with interest, cant join in yet as am stacked out with work. What a lovely looking dog Jack was, and obviously much loved, a lucky boy. Take care Karin.xx
An awesome idea! Actually, I have trouble choosing my subject matter (there are just SO many things I want to paint), so this challenge is perfect for me! Focus at last! And I love the fact that you started it off with your beloved Jack....
I love this and can't wait to participate! What a sweet sweet boy Jack was. My heart is with you. Thanks so much for bringing us all together for such a fun adventure.
Just had this passed on to me from Lara, whose beautiful painting is already on display here! I've long adored your work, Karin.....been a secret admirer for a while now! Would love to get involved with this challenge!
If six wonderful paintings of Jack have already arrived in just one day, this is a great day in art blogging history, and I can't wait to see tomorrow's paintings too!
Hi Karin, I am having e-mail trouble ... UGHHHHHH! And I guess my e-mails & images have not made there way to you. :-( I did paint your beloved Jack & would love to share it on your blog. Feel free to take it off the site. Or hopefully I will get my e-mail going SOON! :-) Thanks for the fun opportunity.
WOW, this is amazing! What a concept! I'm so sorry, however, that you've lost your beloved Jack. This is a beautiful way to immortilize him! My heart is with you in this difficult time. Jeanne
I can't get over all the wonderful interpretations that just keep rolling out. It is beautiful to see how everyone sees Jack. I'm sure it touches Karin deeply to see how caring all these responses are.
I thought this was a brilliant idea when Susan Carlin did it a few weeks ago, but well done Karin for taking it a step further. I shall follow with interest. My sympathies to you just now, the world should have stopped, right? Best wishes Sharon
Everyone is Amazing! I am reminded how special Art really is. Each piece has it's own unique feeling... that no doubt is a part of the artist emotion. I've enjoyed visiting all of your blogs and websites. I'm sure all us are learning from this. Thank you Karin and to all the artist who made this project such a joy!
What a totally awesome idea, Karin. I so much enjoy seeing the other artist's perspective. And lucky you to have such wonderful momentos of your sweet dog!
Thanks, Karin, for this challenge. I have been trying to start painting again after a long time away and I guess I just needed someone else to tell me to do it! I have been a silent fan of yours for some time and love being able to see what you have been doing. Sweet dog. You made a good team.
What a great group of paintings. I scroll down and want to say this piece is may favorite - then I see two more I like. I hope you continue the idea. Good tribute to the dog and his master.
"Objective painting is not good painting unless it is good in the abstract sense. A hill or tree cannot make a good painting just because it is a hill or tree. It is lines and colors put together so that they may say something." - Georgia O'Keeffe
"It's what you carry to an object that counts." - Andrew Wyeth
"...try to forget what objects you have before you, a tree, a house, a field or whatever ... merely think here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow, and paint it just as it looks to you, the exact color and shape..." - Claude Monet
- to paint or draw the scene, not the photograph - to paint or draw from photographs - to make choices from the information given to you
A 3-week challenge for any artist who would like to join in - I'll post one photograph every other Wednesday evening and I want you to paint or draw or etch it your way. Sorry - no digital interpretations(and that includes paintovers) after Week 1. My intentions are for you to use different mediums (in the tradition sense) and not the computer.
To view the original photograph to use as your reference, scroll down to the bottom of each new posting. You'll have a full two weeks to work on your piece - please send your image no later than the second Wednesday evening, when I will also post a new photo.
Please respect my rights to each photograph - your original art, resulting from these images, is yours to keep, sell or give away - any digital copies of the photograph are not yours to sell. And please do not use my name or the blog name on your eBay listings - I appreciate the credit, but it should never be included there. Thank you.
- Create a professional, sharp and accurate jpg file of your art. Helpful instructions can be found here.My suggestion is to size the image at 300 dpi, around 450 K in pixel dimensions, then 'save for web' as a high-quality jpg. I will not accept out-of-focus images, glare spotted images or low resolution files and please don't impose your copyright label on the art. Remember - your image is what sells your work. It is the second most important part of your efforts. - Email the image directly to me at kjurick@mac.com. I will not accept emails with links to your image. - When emailing, type 'different strokes image' on the subject line or your email will be deleted. - Every time you send me your image, include your full name and website/blog address or I won't include it. I will be happy to include a link only if you have a devoted personal website or blog that has some history to it. - Please do not ever ask me to post a painting or drawing that has not been done from the reference photo or deviated from the obvious subject. - Please do not print out the photo and paint over the image. I know it when I see it. - Please spell my name correctly as Karin Jurick. And I promise to take the time to spell your name right. - Please know I appreciate your time and effort with this weekly project.
If You Don't See Your Submission, This Could Be Why
- I run a business so I'm not always at my computer - The image file is other than a jpg. format - Your artwork has no relevance to the photograph - Your image file is blurry - Your image file is too dark - Your image file includes more than just the artwork (such as the table, easel or background) CROP CAREFULLY please. - Your image file wasn't attached in the email - Your email did not include your full name - You send your image later than the ending date
If You're Selling or Auctioning One of Your Submissions
I appreciate the credit given to my name and blog when you are describing your piece of art - but I ask that you do not include my name on your eBay sell page. I would suggest that you do include a line, such as 'this painting was done from a photograph provided on the blog Different Strokes From Different Folks, where artists are encouraged to paint or draw their own interpretations.' That would explain why browsers see similar subjects and compositions - and you wouldn't be violating eBay policy. Thank you.

I welcome comments relating to each specific post - please do not include outside links or your comment will not be posted. Comment moderation is necessary to prevent SPAM left by the losers out there - I recommend all bloggers do the same to stop this nonsense once and for all.
